CARING!  TEACHING!  INSPIRING!

In July our dojo had one of the largest colored belt promotions we have had since our dojo was established in January of 1986.  This promotion was done in three different segments.  Forty students were upgraded to their respective Kyu or below black belt ranks.

Tyler Ranahan, Andy Pape, Brandon Perry, and Matthew Ranahan work Saifa Kata during their green belt promotion in July 2012.

Time is taken to promote each student in a formal promotion ceremony.  Every student is personally recognized for his or her achievements.

Ben Webb and Collin Bower bow in for a fun game of Gladiators.  Proper Respect is always shown with a standing bow.

Respect!     Discipline!     Control!

Respect, Discipline, and Control are important principles, and they are firmly in place at the Larry Davenport Karate Studio, LDKS.  Our goal is to help all of our students enhance their lives, no matter how old or young they are.   We believe that a huge part of enhancing one’s life is accomplished by developing sound leadership skills.  Learning to set and achieve responsible goals, as we do in our belt ranking system, is a significant part of becoming a leader.

Becoming physically stronger and mentally sharper helps develop confidence and self-esteem. Proper training and controlling your body movements enables a student to better focus and concentrate on what he or she is doing. Teaching and assisting others will greatly improve communication skills.  The idea of caring enough to help others is a great quality.  These are some of the things that we encourage and teach.

Discipline is certainly lacking in today’s society.  If you accomplish anything worthwhile discipline has to be involved. When you train on a regular basis and become stronger, physically fit, and better coordinated, it takes a lot of discipline.

Older people are amazed how their strength, balance, and flexibility improves.  Mr. Pete McCoy, 74 is our oldest student.  He is a 2nd degree Black Belt, who trains, teaches, and inspires others, and is very active in the Community of Alexandria.

Hannah Price, from Elwood was extremely introverted.  She is now a teenager as well as a 1st Deg. Black Belt. Her confidence and self-esteem has soared.  Hannah loves to participate in the intense self-defense training and she also enjoys the light contact sparring. Her transition has been no less than phenomenal.  This took a lot of Control.

The names and the stories go on and on.  This will continue as long as I can teach my students and inspire others.   One thing that never ceases to amaze me is the fact that someone who doesn’t know who we are, is getting ready to walk into our dojo.  And because she or he does, their life will be profoundly changed forever in a positive manner.

Will that be you?
